Westward Alien: 17.27: 41 cms high: stoneware. One of the Coastal Blues. This sculpture was inspired by the curves and turns of shells that I picked up on the beach. It is virtually impossible, I think, to make a shell form that is not solid! In the end, I made a slip out of a sandy clay that you can find on Westward Ho! beach, and combined this with a greenish glaze and used this on the inside of the form to give the piece a real sense of place. This was exhibited at Kunsthuis Gallery of Contemporary Art in North Yorkshire in 2017/18.
