Standing Figure: 14.01: 28 cms high: paperclay. This is one of a group of about six standing figures that I made when I first started working with this lovely paperclay. The dark surface is copper oxide, put on quite thickly. When the paperclay is fired (to 1250 degrees) the paper strands burn out and the oxide is sucked into the surface of the clay, so that it looks part of the body. I love that look and use it very often. With this first figure I also put a thin splash of transparent clear glaze down one side, which has resulted in a slightly shiny bit, with some green shading. A strong woman, standing tall.
